Learning All About Our Bodies and Healthcare
Learning all about healthcare and our bodies is a daunting task. We are complicated creatures and there is a true science to each of us. For this reason we need to start early in life understanding our bodies and how they work. By doing so we can keep ourselves in good health and maybe at some point save a life. Learning life saving techniques at a young age can help in emergency situations. Young people can be competent and valuable participants when needed. While the Internet has a vast body of knowledge this site will serve as a public resource on easy to understand healthcare instruction for children. For starters, there are a variety of courses and resources available for both young and old to learn cardiopulmonary resuscitation and related techniques. This website will include easy to follow videos that can captivate the attention of a young audience.
Healthcare learning should be fun. It is also important to help children understand their own mortality and the associated risks of certain behaviors. Helping children to understand a little about how their bodies work is a great way to do that. Talking about breathing or why the heart beats is just the initial step in understanding who and what we are as individuals. Also, by giving this basic understanding to children you can empower them to comprehend not just what to do in an emergency but why they need to do it. As adults we often take it for granted that we have such a vast bank of past experiences and knowledge to draw upon when needing to make decisions. Often times children act in a certain way because of what they have observed but don't actually know why they need to do something. This being said there are several healthcare and emergency training courses that can be taken in your area to help your child know what to do in the event of an emergency and why they need to perform certain interventions in the event that a loved one or neighbor has a heart attack, a stroke, is a victim of drowning, or is choking on something. We often take the fact that we have access to teach our children what to do in these circumstances until its too late.
While we will be providing free instruction on this website ultimately it is to inspire you to both take CPR training and to enroll your children in CPR training as well. Other courses that offer emergency training are ACLS certification, PALS certification, and BLS certifciation. There are many companies that can provide these to you entirely online or you can also take them in the classroom. We recognize that ACLS, PALS, and BLS are taken primarily by healthcare providers but shouldn't we all have at least a basic knowledge of how to act in case of a severe accident or medical emergency? A course that can be completed within a day is not too much to expect from ourselves or our children. Building awareness, knowledge, and skills always comes with a little work. Below we will explain a little more about the different types of courses that are offered that can teach you and your children CPR and other emergency medical techniques. While each company that offers the course is a little different, there are certain generalizations that can be made.
How to find the courses?
At present, the AHA lists all the courses you can try online at their website including ACLS, PALS, and BLS. We recommend that you go online and research the courses available. Please note that different courses will have different eligibility requirements. Ensure that you check the cost and the length of the course before registering for it.
How do I register for the courses?
The AHA website has a searchable database that you can use to find realtime and online courses. If you are taking these courses for the first time, we recommend that you take the realtime courses so that you can pick up the necessary work skills. Once you have found the online website or the realtime venue that is offering the course, call them up and inquire about registrations. You may have to submit relevant paperwork, the course fee and other requirements before registering for the course. The course fee and the format of the course will vary considerably .
What are the types of courses available?
At present, there are three courses that are offered for candidates and they include the BLS, the ACLS and the PALS course. It is recommended that you start with the BLS course which teaches medical basics. You can then follow it up with the ACLS online and the PALS course. You can also add more courses as you proceed. This will provide additional skills and expertise.
What is the format of the course and its eligibility requirements?
The format of the course is the same. The BLS, ACLS and the PALS courses have a practical and a theory component. After completing both parts, the students can then sit for a certification exam. Please note that the BLS course has a voluntary certification exam but the ACLS and the PALS courses have a mandatory certification exam. You should know that not all the courses have the same entry requirements. The BLS course is open to civilians and to medical professionals as well. The ACLS course and the PALS course are open only to medical professionals.
How long are the courses?
The BLS course is only 4.5 hours long but the online BLS course can be completed in 2 hours. The ACLS course is longer as it teaches students how to deal with cardiac conditions and their management. This course extends for at least 15 hours as it is spread out over 2 days. The PALS course is also the same as it comprises for 18 hours spread out over 2 days.
What is the certification and recertification process?
Please note that
Please note that after completing the course, the student is automatically granted a BLS certification online, a PALS certification online and an ACLS certification online. However, this course is only valid for two years. After two years, the student has to reapply for the ACLS, PALS and the BLS courses again. Students have to go online and apply for the BLS, PALS and the ACLS online renewal. The online ACLS, BLS and PALS courses are shorter than the original certification courses. After completing the renewal courses, the student will be granted the BLS, PALS and ACLS recertification online. Please note that the BLS, PALS and the ACLS renewal process is made easy to ensure that certification can be completed quickly.
The AHA has several different courses that are listed on the website. We suggest you go through all of them before you start. You should know though that almost all medical professionals start the course with the BLS course and then follow it up with the ACLS and the PALS course to add to their expertise. However, if you have already completed the BLS course, you can proceed to the ACLS and PALS course quickly.
